What Is LX Factory In Lisbon?

LX Factory is a former textile factory from the 1800s that’s been turned into one of the coolest places in Lisbon. Since 2008, this old industrial complex has grown into a creative hub filled with start-ups, studios, shops, restaurants, cafés, and bars.

The space has two main streets full with places to eat, drink, and browse. Inside the main factory building, you can also head upstairs to find small studios where local artisans and designers sell their products.

Even though the place has been fully modernised, it still keeps its original industrial feel, giving LX Factory a lot of character. It’s a refreshing contrast to Lisbon’s more traditional sights.

If you’re around on a Sunday, don’t miss the LX Factory Market, where you’ll find even more vintage pieces, handmade stuff and street food. There are also regular events and pop-ups so it’s worth checking their schedule if you’re around during the weekend.

What to Do at LX Factory Lisbon

Visit the iconic Ler Devagar

This iconic bookstore is one of our favourite places in Lisbon. Set in an old printing press, Ler Devagar is a visual feast, with books stacked from floor to ceiling, flying bicycles and quiet corners to read in peace.

International media have called it one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world, and honestly, we can see why. They also host exhibitions, talks, and cultural events throughout the year. There’s even a cosy café inside, perfect for taking a break with a coffee and one of their homemade cakes.

Browse the Independent Shops

LX Factory is great for unique shopping. There are around 50 shops in total, spread across the main street and upstairs galleries, well worth exploring if you like independent shops and local design.

Some of our favourite shops include Pequeno Jardim, a charming flower truck, and More Than Wine, which sells Portuguese ceramics and gourmet products. Pura Cal is a good option if you are into home decor.

For fashion, Coqueta is a great vintage store with clothes from the ’70s to ’90s, and OtherWise does fun patterned shirts made ethically in Portugal. Other great options are NAE Vegan Shoes, which sells eco-friendly footwear made from sustainable materials, or Bergue Jewellry Tailors, selling modern jewellery in a small family-run workshop.

Taste food from around the world

There are loads of places to eat at LX Factory, with everything from proper Portuguese food to international options. Here are some of our favourites:

  • Boqueirão – bar with Brazilian snacks
  • Borogodó – Brazilian food, drinks, and live music
  • Brigadeirando – café with cakes and sweets
  • Canteen – local Portuguese dishes in a former factory canteen
  • Landeau – known for its chocolate cake
  • Malaca Too – dishes inspired by Portugal’s former colonies
  • MatchaMama – Peruvian and Asian fusion food
  • Micro Burgers & Music – small burgers with music on the side
  • Rio Maravilha – cocktails and food with a view of the bridge
  • Taberna 1300 – Portuguese dishes with a modern touch
  • USAxe – American-style food and axe throwing
  • Wish Slow Coffee House – specialty coffee and light food

If you’re around on a Sunday, don’t miss the LX Market as there’s even more street food to try then!

Admire the Incredible Street Art

The old factory buildings and walls are brought to life with bold street art and colourful murals, created by a mix of local and international artists. One standout piece is a massive bee sculpture by renowned Portuguese artist Bordalo II. The artwork around the factory is constantly evolving, making it worth coming back.
