Guide and Tourist Information to Museums in Lisbon

Lisbon has a large selection of different museums that showcase the city’s culture and history. Check out our various guides on museums in Lisbon:

Lisbon has a vibrant art scene, with many top museums in the city centre that form some of the most visited attractions in the city.

There are a good mix of styles as well with both modern/contemporary galleries as well as traditional/classic museums (the Museum of Ancient Art showcases some of Portugal’s most famous pieces).

My personal favourite is the Banksy Museum. It’s really well done, with over 100 recreated pieces of art that look almost identical to the real thing. It also has an immersive interactive experience with screens – and each time I’ve been they’ve had a new temporary exhibit or art demonstration!

Lisbon also has a lot of museums that are dedicated to the local culture and history of the city. These museums show some of the key events that shaped Lisbon over the years into the stunning city it is today.

Make sure you visit the Quake Museum that takes you on an interactive experience through one of Lisbon’s most significant historical events – the 1755 earthquake that devastated the city.

The museum literally transports you back to 1755, and guides you interactively through the event – with a full earthquake simulator to add to the experience. It’s really fun and has one multiple awards – great fun for the whole family.

Other Museums in Lisbon

There are also many other Lisbon attractions that contain their own smaller style museums within the landmark. Whilst normally a lot smaller than a dedicated museum, you can still seem some stunning pieces of history and art. Here is a selection as of 2024:
