Royal Treasury Museum Overview
The Museu do Tesouro Real (Royal Treasury Museum) features a large permanent collection of assets from the Portuguese Royal Family.
This includes artworks that were part of the Crown and various items from private collections of different members of the Portuguese Royal Family.
The museum is organised into eleven distinct exhibition areas spread over three floors
The museum is home to some of Portugal’s most historic and important items including the Crown of Portugal, The Sword of Justice, The Cross of Christ, and The Royal Orb.
It takes roughly 2 hours to get around the museum and see everything including any temporary exhibitions.
Guided tours are available from the reception for an additional cost – available in English, Portuguese, French, Spanish, and Italian.
There is also a small coffee shop to buy snacks and drinks, as well as a souvenir gift shop to buy something to remember your visit.

Royal Treasury Museum Location and How to Get There
The Royal Treasury Museum is located in central Lisbon, in the district of Ajuda, making it convenient to visit alongside a large number of Lisbon’s top attractions.
It is right next door to the Ajuda Palace, as well as being just a 20 minute walk from Jeronimos Monastery.
You can easily get to the Royal Treasury Museum by taking the tram. The closest tram stop is Ajuda (with the 18E trams stopping there), which is then just a 5 minute walk to the museum.
With regards to buses, you can take any of the following Carris buses (729, 732, 742), and get off at Ajuda, which is just a 4 minute walk to the museum.
