Best Speciality Coffee Shops and Cafes in Lisbon
In Lisbon, the coffee culture is a mix of old and new, just like the city itself. Traditionally, locals love their bica (a strong espresso shot), but more recently Lisbon has been transformed into specialty coffee hotspot.
Now you can find modern, minimalist, third-wave coffee shops offering a range of options from flat whites to trendy pour-overs.
The city is also home to a number of on-site coffee roasting facilities, and with the rise of the digital nomad, mixed with Lisbon as a tech hotspot, the coffee scene in Lisbon is one of the best in Europe.
So whether you need a break from the many Lisbon attractions, or need a way to kick-start your morning, we have picked out five great coffee spots to check out when visiting:

1. Copenhagen Coffee LabMy personal favourite place to get coffee in Lisbon is Copenhagen Coffee Lab. The design is a classic Scandinavian aesthetic, offering a clean, minimalistic and cool atmosphere, popular with many of the third-wave coffee houses across Europe. As of 2024 there are now over 8 venues in central Lisbon.

2. Fábrica Coffee RoastersAgaain, Fábrica is another excellent coffee roaster in Lisbon with multiple venues across the city. My favourite spot is the Fabrica on Rua Santa Marta thanks to the modern design combining concrete, wood and greenery for a modern urban feel.
Fábrica’s cafes serve salads, sandwiches and pastries all made fresh daily. Their location on Rua Santa Marta makes for great people-watching through the huge glass windows. 3. The MillTucked away in the historic Chiado district, this venue is probably more famed as a breakfast and brunch place, but I’ve included it here because of the quality of its coffee!. The location is great, with glass windows that allow you to people watch outside. The tram also goes directly in front of the shop, which is also pretty cool. I’d recommend combining your coffee with some of their excellent food options, including lots of healthy, vegetarian, and vegan options. I had the breakfast bagel when I went which came with a lovely chilli jam – highly recommended! 4. Hello, KristofHello, Kirstof is one of my favourite places to get coffee in Lisbon, especially when I need to do a little work or I’m looking to kill a few hours reading. The premise of the place is centered around the magazine rack on the walls, where you can grab a magazine and chill with some fresh coffee and food. It’s also friendly to digital nomads and remote workers, allowing you to catch up on emails in a lovely relaxed environment It goes without saying the coffee is excellent with single origin, high quality beans and a simple no frills menu. Checkout the food as well, with the usual modern brunch options available (Avocado, eggs, pastries) as well as plenty of vegan and vegetarian dishes. 5. BunaThis small rustic coffee shop in the centre of the city is a hidden gem when it comes to great coffee in Lisbon. The coffee menu is simple, but it is clear there is a lot of passion involved in making every cup, with high quality, and fresh beans. There are a few tables and chairs, including out on the street, to enjoy your coffee and people watch, but they also do take-away. When I went I didn’t try any of the food but they do a range of breakfast dishes, as well as some pastries and cakes. Reading reviews the food options sound delicious!
